How annoying is it when you had something that worked just the way you liked and and you get an upgrade request and then BLAM, it doesn’t work.

At the top of Internet Explorer, the browser window used to allow you to just enter in any phrase and it’d come back with your default search engine results. You didn’t have to type in a web address perfectly, it just worked. But somewhere along the way, during some hidden upgrade to the latest version of Internet Exploder, the functionality to search from the bar was gone. What happened? I keep typing in the URL field and I keep getting the same error.

Well, enough of that already! Here’s the answer on how to fix the problem with a quick easy configuration change. Here’s how you can configure Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 to search using IE URL bar instead of one of the custom search toolbars:

  1. Open Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools Menu Bar and select Internet Options.
  2. Click on the Advanced tab, and under Settings, scroll down to the Search from the Address Bar section
  3. Scroll down to the Section Search from the Address Bar
  4. Select Just display the results in the main window
  5. Click Apply
  6. DONE

Now you can enter your search request right from the URL bar and get the results instead of some annoying response that you did something wrong!
