Newarks Leuprechan - McHuggy Bear

2009 marked a new milestone for area residents who supported the Deputy Grand Marshall of the 2009 Newark Saint Patricks Day parade down Mulberry Street in Newark New Jersey. Didn’t matter whether you were Irish or not…as the saying went “everyone is Irish today”.

While it’s not in the grand scale of the New York City Saint Patricks Day parade on March 17th, it’s still an honor to walk on behalf of the supporting organizations. The event was held on Friday, March 13, 2009.

Those who march in the Newark parade also normally march in the Union, West Orange, and New York City St. Patricks Day parade/celebrations. Being a tight knit group, it normally goes like this: “You march in our parade, we’ll march in yours.” The parade route is only about 8/10′s of a mile so I was told. Starting at the Pru Center on Mulberry Steet, the parade headed north, turning left on Center Street (PAC Center), concluding with a hard right at Kilkenny’s Ale House just around the corner across from the Newark Museum on Washington Street. Total time: less than 1 hr.

Kilkenny’s Alehouse (formerly Hamilton Pub), 27, and McGovern’s were three social areas where many gathered after the parade. Kilkenny’s happens to be best placed since it sits just at the end of the parade route.

We didn’t get to video much, because our group was near the middle/end of the parade, but there was some footage taken.

Isn’t that the ESPN theme song? I didn’t know that was an Irish tune?
