The H1B Visa Program IS Broken

Information Technologists are just the latest wave of American workers that have been sold short by the American Government. Like what NAFTA did to factories and factory workers in the United States, the H1B visa program is the latest capitalist tool that not only undermines the American worker, it sets the path to further erode the middle class and lead to greater government dependency.

The 60 Minutes piece is the first in a long time to expose the problem, the abuse, and the loopholes that Washington lobbyists and congress has been using for years to gain corporate donations and favors from America’s tech companies. What’s nothing more than a flagrant abuse of “human trafficking”, you can see the areas wherever there’s software engineering. “They’re the migrant workers of IT”, stated a US consultant who asked to remain anonymous. “Our government absolutely knows what they’ve done, and they have nothing but shame to show for it. I just wish we could outsource our congress!”

Medium.com called the H1B  “the worst high skilled immigration program to have ever been created in the history of mankind.” The H1B visa is an employment-based, non-immigrant visa category for temporary workers. As you all probably have seen, there’s a few more Indian’s in the United States then there were 10 years ago. And it’s not 50,000. And it’s not temporary. And they’re not going back either.

The Infamous “Knowledge Transfer”

Knowledge transfer is the process by which experienced employees share or distribute their knowledge, skills and behaviors to the employees replacing them according to Training Industry. And that’s exactly what companies are doing.

But it’s not that simple either. Companies who wish to not get their hands dirty just outsource the contract to companies like Accenture, Infosys, Cognizant or any other consulting company who then does the work for them. “These companies have outrageous methods that actually outsource huge chunks of work that are traditionally kept in America.  Hidden behind Global alliances to countries like Ireland, companies now not only undermine the human resources, they then take those profits and ship them offshore to build other arms of outsourcing in other countries. “They’re like the giant sucking monster in War of the Worlds,” said one consultant. “It’s really outrageous and I can’t believe they get away with breaking the laws.”

In the 60 Minutes piece, Kurt Hoone of the worked stated “I think, for once, we’re gonna stand up as Americans and say enough is enough. We’re not gonna take it anymore.”  Robert Harrison said during the 60 Minutes program said it simply; “It’s gonna be a matter of time before everybody else feels the same burden, the same pinch, the same hurt that we’re feeling right here at UCSF. It’s a matter of time.”

What’s Next

What’s next is really the big question. The answer is probably not much. but then again there’s President Trump that’s in office now. There isn’t a more perfect person to go in and “drain the swamp” and protect the american technology worker. Time will tell. Have a story to share, let us know.
